Introducing CBD to Your Pup
Believe it or not, CBD products have been popular for use in pets for well over a decade. While the usage of hemp products for pets dates back much further, only recently have CBD products become easily attainable and in a wide variety. You can find beg-worthy CBD biscuits, chews, and oils – all for our most loyal companions!
Is CBD safe for dogs?
Research demonstrating the effectiveness of CBD in dogs is still slim, but studies from Colorado State University and Cornell University have both been published in recent years with overall positive results. One of these studies successfully attempted to demonstrate the safety of CBD use in cats and dogs. The other study demonstrated positive results in treating dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.
While these results are extremely promising, it is always best to consult with your vet before trying any CBD products with your pet.
Why should I try CBD with my dog?
Anecdotal evidence suggests that CBD may assist the treatment of many ailments in dogs, including:
- Cardiac Health
- Decreased Appetite
- Skin Issues
- Irritable Bowels
CBD is not a substitute for traditional veterinary care and medicine, but if your pup is struggling with any of these issues, speak with your vet about supplementing their health routine with CBD. You’ll also want to make sure CBD won’t react with any medicines your dog is already taking.
Some pet owners use CBD as a remedy for anxiety-provoking events in their dog’s life such as long car rides or trips to the vet. Others keep it on hand for events like thunderstorms or fireworks displays. It can also be used during big life changes in your dog’s life – like moving houses or adding a new pet to the family!
How can I incorporate CBD into my dog’s routine?
Since CBD has exploded in the pet product world, there are dozens of brands and products that make delivering your pet’s ideal dose of CBD much easier.
Treatibles make several extremely popular CBD options for dogs, including their fun bone-shaped chews. These flavorful chews are available in both hard and soft varieties. Treatibles soft chews are ideal for senior dogs with fewer teeth, while their hard chews are great for dogs who love a good crunch!
Oils are an easy way to administer specific doses to your pup, especially if they’re picky about treats. Oils can easily be mixed into foods or dropped directly into your dog’s mouth. You can even use oils to make your own CBD-infused treats customized to your dog’s palette!
If your dog has no issues with swallowing pills, capsules are an excellent way to deliver your dog’s CBD dose. If needed, they can also be wrapped in a dog pill wrap (like Pill Pockets), or hidden in another treat your dog is unlikely to question!
